Bandon 0-11
Aghabullogue 0-07

Eoghan O'Donovan inspired Bandon to a Tom Creedon Cup victory of 0-11 to 0-7 over Aghabullogue at a rain and wind lashed Bandon last Sunday afternoon.

Playing with the wind to their backs, the Lilywhites were too fast and slick for their mid-cork opponents in the first half and lead 0-7 to no score at that stage.

Eoghan kicked over a 13m free inside a minute of the start and then added two lovely points off his left-peg after Alan Johnson had scored a fantastic solo effort from out on the wing.

Our backs were in full control and Peter Murphy, James O'Donovan, Pa O'Brien and Brian Crowley were very tenacious in the testing conditions.

Barry Collins at full forward had his first score from play on the 9th minute and after corner forward Matthew McNamara was fouled close-in on 12th minute, Eoghan O'Donovan pointed the resultant free to leave it at 0-6 to 0-0.

Matthew McNamara scored a point off play on the 28th minute to leave it 0-7 to no score at half time but it had become noticeable that Aghabullogue use of 2 sweepers had drastically reduced the effectiveness of our forwards.

Barry Collins had his second point from play within 20 seconds of the re-start before being withdrawn along with the hard working Philip Crowley.

Eoghan O'Donovan kicked over three close-in frees off his hands by the tenth minute but that was as good as it got for us as for almost the whole second half we were under fierce pressure from mostly Aghabullogue but also from our own ragged play.

On the 18th minute it was 0-11 to 0-6 and we were somewhat fortunate that one of their players saw Red at that time.

This enabled us to re-group somewhat and a fantastic full length save by captain fantastic Pat Prendergast ensured we made it through to the next round where we face a very tough test from Ballingeary.

However, it was great to get that maiden victory at Intermediate level at the first attempt and without the services of some key forwards.
