Football - Minor - Bandon snatch victory from the jaws of defeat

Bandon 2-12
Newcestown 2-10

The concession of a soccer-style goal to Newcestown and a five point margin with only four-minutes remaining seemed like d'j'-vu to many of the home supporters at last Friday evenings keenly contested Minor Football A/B League game played in Bandon.

However, the minors and mentors had different ideas and the direst switch of Timmy McCarthy to centre back and Colm Minihane to full forward energized the whole team and a scoring spree of an amazing 01-04 in those closing minutes ensured victory for the team with the industrious Eoghan O'Sullivan scoring the all-important goal.

Bandon opened brightly but recorded 4 wides inside the first 5 minutes and found themselves trailing 01-07 to 01-04 at the small whistle.

Gearoid Collins got that opening gaol and 3 other points as well from play.

We dominated the possession stakes in the second period, yet only converted 4 points in the opening 26 minutes and then woke up after conceding what looked like the winning goal to our great rivals.

Joe O'Mahony was excellent, Mark O'Regan prominent throughout but Eoghan Hurley, David Behan, David Laffan and Gearoid Collins put in a fine hours display also.

Team; C McCarthy, A Burns, O McCarthy, E Hurley, G Fenton, C Minihane 0-1f, D Behan, E O'Sullivan 1-0, J O'Mahony, J McCarthy, M O'Regan 0-4f's, D Laffan 0-2, G O'Connell, T McCarthy, G Collins 1-3
