Southern Star 26th August - Momentous Underage Week - 2017-08-23

Momentous week

Bandon Underage GAA have just had a momentous week on and off the pitch, winning a County Final, a League Final at under 12, a Minor Hurling Championship Semi Final on Monday night and holding their most successful Cul Camp ever.

U15

Bandon's Under 15A Footballers recorded their double county last Wednesday night under lights at Macroom after an enthralling contest went to extra time against Wolfe Tones to finish on a score of 3-13 to 3-6.

The sides were level at half time of ordinary time 0-5 to 1-2 with Bandon holding a three points advantage before conceding a penalty on the stroke of half time.

The full time score was 0-12 to 2-6 and Bandon in fairness to them were chasing the game for long periods of that second half but never threw in the towel.

Extra time belonged to Bandon where their superior fitness from the hurling campaign shone through. The goals that we had threatened all night came through in the first period of Extra time and our lead of 2-13 to 2-6 was to prove unassailable for a very brave Kanturk side. Every one of the players from 1 to 15 were our hereos on the night and special mention also goes to the hard working mentor's Ian Doyle, John Collis, Finbarr Lynch and Karl O'Mahony. Finally well done to the huge club support on the night and you were like an extra man to these fine young men.

Team: Oisin Doyle, Oisin O'Mahony, Tim Twohig, Ralph O'Mahony, Cian Burke, Conor Twomey, Tom Desmond, Cathal Lynch 0-4, Niall Desmond, Gavin Lowney 1-0, Charlie Long 1-3, Fionn Harrington 0-1, Brendan Twohig 0-1, Daithi Collis 1-3, Jake Lillis 0-1.

Subs: Luke Quinlan, Richard Murphy, Rory Harrington, Rory Desmond, Robert McCarthy, Gerard O'Donovan, Kieran Barry, David McCarthy, Tom Donegan, Conor Gallagher.

U12 & Minor

The Under 12 Hurlers defeated Barryroe in the Section 1 League Final 3-6 to 0-5 last Thursday evening whilst the Minor A Hurlers held on to defeat a fancied Courcey Rovers team 3-12 to 1-15 in the Championship Semi Final last Monday evening at Kilbrittain.

Cul Camp

Bandon Cul Camp ran from Monday 14th to Friday 18th and saw our biggest ever numbers with 269 kids in attendance having great week of fun and games supported by 22 brilliant young coaches.

Camp co-ordinator Mark Sugrue did an excellent job of ensuring that the coaches were well prepared and football and hurling skills were practiced in a fun enjoyable way.

We were very fortunate to have Cork Minor Ladies Footballer Nicole Quinn and Cork Minor and Intermediate Camogie player Maeve Lynch as members of the coaching team for the week.

While the weather was mixed the spirits remained high all week.

Highlights were visits by Cork Senior Footballer Sean Powter on Thursday and Cork Senior Hurler, our own Michael Cahalane on Friday.

Our Underage Club Sponsor Caulfields SuperValu Bandon were on hand to supply healthy goody bags on Friday.
