Premier Intermediate Football - Division 4 League Final

]Our adult players finished their 2017 playing activities with a deserved 1-11 to 1-7 victory over Castletownbere (CTB)in the re-scheduled Division 4 Football League Final played on a lovely surface at Cloughduv last Friday evening. Ctb were prominent early on and led by 0-3 to 0-1 on the ¼ hour mark with our only score coming from a fisted effort by Barry Collins on the 9th minute. Ctb employed a sweeper system throughout and this effective early on in thwarting our attacks into their backline. David Crowley in defence, and Darren Crowley and Jonathon Mulcahy were prominent for us and indeed we edged in-front on the 16th minute when Barry rattled the net after collecting a ball driven in by Darren from a free, it seemed to be going wide until Barry reacted quickly and scored the goal. Our defence got on top after this but we registered a number of wides before Mark Sugrue converted a free won by Eoghan O’Donovan on the 23rd minute. Peter Murphy and Jason Hickey added further points before the break where we led 1-4 to 0-4.

Michael Cahalane replaced the hard working but lame Matthew McNamara at half-time and on the re-start we took the game to Ctb and Eoghan O’Donovan, Alan Johnson, Darren Crowley and Jonathon Mulcahy each scored points from play to leave us ahead 1-8 to 0-4 on the 37th minute. Then both teams lost a player with Barry Collins seeing Red and his marker got a Black Card for some in-descretions of the playing rules. This roused neither team as such and they exchanged points on the 12tn minute with Donough Lucey scoring from way out so as to avoid the blanket defence. This became a feature for the rest of the game as well as our ability to retain possession in the middle of the park thereby preventing our opponents from getting on the ball. Ctb did score a good break-away goal on the 27th minute but it was too little too late as Mark Sugrue and Darrren Crowley had put us 1-11 to 0-7 ahead by the time their goal came. Team; Pat Prendergast, David Crowley, James O’Donovan, Philip Crowley, Tom O’Donoghue, Peter Murphy 0-1, Eoghan O’Donovan 0-1, Donough Lucey 0-1, Jason Hickey 0-1, Jonathon Mulcahy 0-1, Alan Johnson 0-1, Darren Crowley 0-3, Matthew McNamara, Barry Collins 1-1, Mark Sugrue 0-2, 1free.

Underage Club - Congratulations

Lastly, sincere congratulations to our Underage Club after they became the October winners of the Rebel Og Monthly Awards. Team captains and mentors from the successful Under 18, Under 15s x 2 and Under 12 teams were on hand to receive the award together with Club Chairperson Ian Doyle who accepted the award on behalf of the club. This is an acknowledgement of the excellent work being done by coaches and players from nursery programmes to minor level at the club and the future is looking very bright for the Bandon GAA as a result of this Trojan work.
