Bandon GAA Notes 06-10-2018 - 2018-10-02

U16 Football County Semi Final

Bandon advanced to the U16 P2A Football Championship Final after a dominant display against Fermoy in the semi final in Ballinlough on Sat 29 Sept last.
The result in this game was never in doubt as Bandon were on top all over the field, despite being reduced to 14 players after 13 min due to 2nd yellow infringement. The first score after 4min was a goal by centre forward Charlie Long followed by a point from Corner Back Ralph O’Mahony. Fermoy scored their only point in first half on the 20th minute.  Bandon pushed forward with the score on small whistle at Bandon 1-6 Fermoy 0-1.
In the second half, Bandon continued to score freely with Fionn Harrington getting a goal on 33 minute, the mid-field pairing of Niall Desmond and Robert McCarthy were in control on kick outs and the three forwards Jake Lillis, Daithi Collis and Fionn Harrington put up more points on the board.
Oisin Doyle was solid in the Bandon goal, supported by a strong defence of Tim Twohig, Cian Burke and Ralph O’Mahony preventing Fermoy attacks.
Bandon football attacking display was a pleasure to watch as they attacked en mass with runs by Richard Murphy, Conor Twomey and Tom Desmond.
Fermoy were reduced to 14 players in 2nd half due to double yellow card. Bandon’s final score was a point by Cathal Lynch topping the final score Bandon 3-12 Fermoy 0-3.
It is a great achievement for this bunch of players to be back in a County Final in their first year of Premier grade. The final is fixed for Sat 13 Oct where we expect a sterner test against Duarigle Gaels (Millstreet/Cullen and the venue and time tbc.
Scorers: C Long 2-3, F Harrington 1-2, D Collis 0-4, J Lillis 0-1, C Lynch 0-1, R O’Mahony 0-1.

Junior B Foortball

Meanwhile our Junior B Footballers exited the county competition at the first hurdle when going down by a single point to St Vincents 1-11 to 2-7 at Brinny last Saturday evening.  The team were weakened in that we lost the services of four starters from the final victory over Goleen but then one very pleasing aspect of this game was the return to championship action from a very long-term injury for Pa O’Brien.  Ben Donegan scored a later goal in the last minute and some of our supporters were very disappointed when the referee called full-time before the 6oth minute had elapsed.

Team: Jack Donegan, Harry Lillis, Kevin Lucey, Owen Hurley, Mark O’Regan, Joe Harrington, Andrew O’Connell, Rob Long, Pa O’Brien 0-1, Aidan O’Mahony 0-1, David Aherne (Captain, 0-1), Olann McSweeney, Owen Nolan 0-1, Robbie Moloney 1-1, Ben Donegan 1-1,. Subs: John O’Connell, Conor Calnan, Robert O’Driscoll 0-1.
