Football - Minor
Bandon 0-11
Naomh Aban 1-08

Last Friday nights Minor B football final between Bandon and Naomh Aban was fantastic and will be etched in the memory of those who witnessed it for a long time.

It finished in a flurry and whether that final Bandon ball was wide or a point does not matter because I believe a draw was the fairest result by far for two teams who gave it 110% from the first to the final whistle.

Bandon started strongest racing into 0 - 4 points lead on 12 minutes courtesy of points each from Timmy McCarthy and Mark ORegan and a brace from man of the match Jonathon Mulcahy.

Aidan ODonoghue and Darren OSullivan were well on top at the middle of the park but the latter would be replaced soon after getting a knock.

A 35m free kick to our Muskerry opponents deceived everyone to lodge in the back of the net but Mark ORegan restored our two point advantage straight from the kick-out to leave it 0-5 to 1-0 at the half way point of the first half.

Naomh Aban threatened to run riot after this as they dominated proceedings but still the score was level 1-3 to 0-6 at half time with our score coming from Jonathon Mulcahy.

The game favoured us upon the re-start but we had three consecutive narrow wides when good approach play deserved more.

N Aban were ahead through a free only us to draw level via a great solo run and point from sharp-shooter Timmy McCarthy.

Jonathon edged us ahead by a point 1-4 to 0-8 with good spade-work provided by Adam Casey and Joseph OMahony.

Level again by them after a kick-out just went the smallest bit astray. The game was end-to-end, with great fielding, endavour and skill from both sides. It was a fair and tough contest. Both sides exchanged points Jonathon Mulcahy had us in front 0-10 to 1-6 on 18 minutes after a fantastic run and score.

Naomh Aban scorched us for a while after this but had only 2 points to show for their dominance and Eoin McCarthy as well as Mark ORegan were fantastic in defence for us at this vital stage.

Jonathon continued to excel and a dis-possession followed by a fantastic solo-run was the pick of the crop in this enthralling contest.

Mark ORegan equalized for on 27 minutes and the final drama concerned a split umpiring decision which I think was a wide and not a point but who knows.

We live to fight another day. I cant wait.

Team: K McCarthy, A Burns, E McCarthy, T Ellis, A Casey, C Minihane, J OLeary, A ODonoghue, O OSullivan, C Niles, G Collins, M ORegan 0-3, J Mulcahy 0-5, T McCarthy 0-3, J OMahony. Subs: A Moynihan.
